Toast For Every Occasion – an evening of social speeches with Lapham Quarterly, celebrated the art and history of the toast.

Editors and friends of the magazine prepared a selection of curated toasts and social engagement speeches -- weddings, funerals, holidays, anniversaries, dinners drawn from literature, historical records and social anthologies.  There was a brief discussion of the tradition’s origin as well as its various expressions and places in different cultures.  After cocktails and an introductory toast welcoming the guests, dinner was served.

During the sit-down dinner, notable guests gave recitations of toasts on different subjects and Lewis Lapham and others read relevant literary passages.  Guests took home a curated anthology of toasts for any occasion provided by Lapham’s Quarterly.
